Malaysia has the distinction of being the first to restructure its Ministry and initiated the information of the Communications and Multimedia Commission to promote the development of its ICT sector in the region. The continued liberalization in thissector has opened up tremendous opportunity for international participation directly or through partnerships. The number of subscribers for both 2.5 million users and 2.9 million subscribers respectively to approximately 6 million. The increase is among the fastest in Asia.
Under the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications blueprint set forth under MyICMS 886 will provide excellent opportunities for ICT vendors. Key growth areas which sets targets for 8 services till 2010 include high speed broadband, 3G and beyond, mobile TV, digital multimedia broadcasting, digital home, short range communications ( RFID ), VOIP and universal service provisioning. |
